THE MOST HIGHLY VALUED ARTISTS BY DEODATO ARTE: ICONS OF THE CONTEMPORARY MARKET

In the Deodato Arte catalog there are some of the most highly valued and recognizable artists of contemporary art, absolute protagonists of the international market. Their works represent a meeting point between artistic language, global visual culture, and high-level collecting.

Banksy

Banksy is one of the most influential figures in contemporary Street Art. His direct language, often ironic and provocative, uses simple images to convey complex messages linked to social, political and human themes. The artist’s anonymity contributes to strengthening his myth, while his works are now among the most sought-after and highly valued in the art market.

Girl with balloon

Girl with Balloon is Banksy’s most iconic work. The image of the little girl letting go of a heart-shaped balloon has become a universal symbol of hope, loss, and desire. The strength of the work lies in its apparent simplicity, capable of evoking deep and immediate emotions. Contributing to its worldwide fame is also the famous episode that occurred during a Sotheby’s auction, when Girl with Balloon self-destructed (partially) immediately after the hammer fell, turning into one of the most discussed events in the contemporary art market. The subject is available within the Deodato Arte catalog together with other certified editions, among the most coveted by collectors.

Jeff Koons

Jeff Koons is one of the most influential and highly valued artists in the contemporary scene, with a strongly structured and international market. His language, based on glossy surfaces, iconic objects, and references to pop culture, has made his works extremely appealing to institutional and private collectors. His style plays on the boundary between art, consumption, and pop culture, making his works immediately recognizable. Koons’s market is characterized by auction records and strong attention toward his most iconic subjects.

Balloon Rabbit

The Celebrations Sculptures series, linked to the Balloon subject, is considered the most iconic. Balloon dog (Orange), the famous steel sculpture representing a dog made of balloons, created in 1990 in five different colors, was in fact sold at auction by Christie’s in 2013 in New York for 58.4 million dollars. Never before had a work by a living artist reached such an amount. This auction established a record for a living artist, making Jeff Koons the highest-paid living artist in the world.

However, this record was broken a few years later by David Hockney. His famous painting Portrait of an Artist was sold at auction for 90.3 million dollars. Hockney’s record did not last long. On May 15, 2019, Jeff Koons’s sculpture Rabbit was sold at auction for 91.1 million dollars.

Damien Hirst

Damien Hirst is one of the artists who has most influenced the contemporary market, thanks to a recognizable production and a strong positioning strategy. His most iconic works are considered true benchmarks for the market, with constant demand and a strong presence in both the primary and secondary markets. His work addresses universal themes such as life, death, time, and value, often through powerful and immediately recognizable images. Hirst has succeeded in combining conceptuality and visual impact, becoming a central figure in the international art market.

The skull

The skull is one of the most iconic subjects in Damien Hirst’s production, made famous by the work For the Love of God. This symbol reflects on the relationship between mortality and wealth, between the transience of life and the desire for eternity. For its creation, Hirst used the cast of a real human skull, covering the cranium in platinum and applying 8601 diamonds, while also keeping the original teeth set in the jaw. The work reached extraordinary valuations: against a production cost of 14 million pounds, it was later sold for 50 million pounds. The subject also inspired limited-edition silkscreens, created with lenticular technique to accentuate the 3D effect.

Keith Haring

Keith Haring is one of the symbolic figures of urban art and the visual culture of the 1980s. His style is characterized by bold lines, bright colors, and dynamic figures, designed to be understood by everyone and used to translate important social and political themes. In the art market, Haring is now a benchmark name: his very strong recognizability and the international diffusion of his imagery support constant demand, making his works among the most sought-after. His positioning is also strengthened by his ability to have built an immediate and replicable language across multiple supports, an aspect that has helped consolidate his collectible presence over time.

Radiant Boy

Keith Haring’s Radiant Boy is one of the most iconic and recognizable subjects in his works: a stylized and colorful “little man,” with an immediate and revolutionary line. Present as a constant in the murals, Radiant Boy becomes for Haring a true visual symbol and a language capable of communicating, with apparent simplicity, very complex messages, such as the silence that accompanied the spread of AIDS. Haring’s “little men” are now famous all over the world and make his works easily identifiable. The choice of figures without defined sex also strengthens a message of inclusion, promoting a shared humanity that does not depend on gender, sexual orientation, or race.

ACCESSIBLE ARTISTS AND NEW COLLECTING OPPORTUNITIES

Artists with a production oriented toward accessible collecting

In the contemporary art market, some artists succeed in combining recognizability and collectability through works proposed in formats and techniques that make purchasing more accessible, without diminishing quality or authorial identity. Their works stand out for a coherent production and a strong communicative ability, making art easily enjoyable and collectible. These are direct and contemporary languages, often linked to urban and pop aesthetics, capable of dialoguing with a wide audience and with private spaces. This type of production represents a concrete opportunity for those who wish to start an art collection or expand it with iconic, coherent, and immediately accessible works, focusing on names that are already recognizable and present on the market.

Mr. Savethewall

Mr. Savethewall develops a direct and contemporary visual language, capable of combining Street Art, communication, and current affairs in an ironic and critical reading of society. In his works emerge references to artists he looks at with admiration, such as Banksy and Damien Hirst, however reworked into a personal style made of strong, clear, and provocative messages.

His poetics aim to stimulate reflection on the contradictions of the present through images and famous subjects, immediately recognizable, often accompanied by texts that make the meaning even more immediate. Also central is the use of conceptual détournement: the reuse of already existing images that the artist overturns, attributing to them a new and often opposite meaning.

Kiss me

In Kiss Me, Mr. Savethewall represents contemporary man: elegant and well dressed, but with the appearance of a frog. The subject was born as a critique of the illusion of appearance and of the false morality of the princess fairy tale: even if he “transforms,” the frog remains such. As the artist states, “a frog, even if well dressed, is and always remains a frog.”

The frog-man also becomes the metaphor for real people who flaunt status and wealth — between carefully chosen clothes and visible Rolex watches — but who, beneath the surface, reveal what they really are. Precisely because of its immediate iconography, Kiss Me has been developed by the artist into different limited-edition series, becoming one of the most recognizable and sought-after subjects of his career.

Marco Lodola

Marco Lodola is known for an essential and vibrant style, made of synthetic forms and bright colors. His poetics draw from music, cinema, and sport, transforming icons of pop culture into dynamic images, capable of combining art and design with great visual immediacy.

Limited editions and works on paper

Marco Lodola’s silkscreens represent one of the most appreciated ways to collect his pop and immediate language. In these works on paper, the artist translates his hallmark style of essential forms, bright colors, and dynamic figures into compositions with strong visual impact, keeping the recognizability of his imagery intact. Limited editions allow entry into Lodola’s world through coherent and iconic works, ideal for enriching a contemporary collection with an original and identity-defining artwork.

Orticanoodles

Orticanoodles is a benchmark artistic collective for Italian Street Art and has built a distinctive language based on color and the decomposition of the image. Starting from Street Art, the collective develops a visual research in which the graphic and chromatic component becomes the protagonist, creating works of strong impact and recognizability. Also known for a pioneering use of stencil, they have succeeded in combining innovative techniques and pop aesthetics to bring art into urban space. Their works address current themes such as social inclusion, the fragmentation of modern society, and the enhancement of city life.

Decomposed portraits

Decomposed portraits represent one of the collective’s central subjects: faces and figures, sometimes evoked among urban symbols and pop references, are recomposed through intense color fields, essential lines, and dynamic overlaps. Alongside this research, Orticanoodles also combines symbols of nature and references to fauna and flora, inserted with contemporary sensitivity into an urban imaginary with a pop aesthetic, capable of speaking about inclusion and city life with immediacy. The result is a vibrant, iconic, and highly recognizable language, particularly appreciated by those who collect contemporary urban art.

Established artists with works available in different collecting ranges

Many established artists in the contemporary scene have developed over the years an articulated artistic production capable of speaking to different collectors, while always keeping their own language intact. Alongside large-format works and rarer pieces, they often offer editions, multiples, and iconic subjects presented in more compact versions, which allow access to their creative universe through representative and strongly identity-defining works. This articulation, typical of a consolidated market, broadens the possibilities of collecting and makes the acquisition of international names accessible, without giving up recognizability, visual strength, and value over time.

Richard Orlinski

Richard Orlinski is one of the most recognizable contemporary sculptors at an international level. His poetics focus on powerful and dynamic forms, often inspired by the animal world and an “instinctive” and primordial imaginary. Alongside large-format works, his production includes iconic subjects also offered in more compact versions, broadening collecting possibilities.

Toys

Richard Orlinski’s toys reinterpret the artist’s most famous subjects in more compact formats, keeping their visual energy, colors, and recognizability intact. An ideal variation for those who wish to enter his sculptural universe through an iconic subject.
