Shapes / Forme – Sotto la stessa luce: Jacopo Di Cera explores Paralympic sport through art

In Milan, a project comes to life that brings together contemporary art, photography, and social commitment: “Shapes / Forme – Sotto La Stessa Luce”, a series of works by artist Jacopo Di Cera dedicated to Paralympic sport, created in collaboration with Regione Lombardia and curated by Maria Vittoria Baravelli.

The exhibition, on view from March 25 to April 7, 2026, at Palazzo Lombardia, features 44 photographs portraying 44 athletes, symbolically representing 100% of Paralympic disciplines. This body of work goes beyond documentary photography, presenting itself as a true visual investigation into the body, movement, and identity.

A perspective that shifts perception

At the core of the project lies an aesthetic choice that is both simple and powerful: a zenithal viewpoint, from above, perpendicular to the subject.

From this perspective, the athletes’ bodies transform into abstract, almost geometric forms. Shadows, far from being secondary elements, become silent protagonists, amplifying the gesture and creating a new, essential, and universal narrative.

The result is a visual language that transcends rhetoric: there is no heroic celebration nor pity, but rather an authentic reflection on the plurality of forms and ways of being.

Beyond disability: gesture as a universal language

“Shapes/Forme” invites us to shift our gaze: from disability to athletic gesture; from limitation to form; from difference to multiplicity.

Jacopo Di Cera’s images capture the essence of sporting action in its purest moment: a technical, precise gesture that is also deeply human. Each athlete is portrayed not as a symbol, but as an individual, with their own uniqueness.

In this sense, shadow does not conceal—it reveals. It becomes a second presence that expresses the complexity of identity, shaped by discipline, fragility, and freedom.

Art, inclusion, and social commitment

The project is part of the program “Campioni Ogni Giorno”, promoted by Procter & Gamble Italy and developed in collaboration with the Italian Paralympic Committee, with the aim of making sport increasingly accessible and inclusive.

Through concrete initiatives—from supporting sports associations to activities in schools—the project contributes to promoting a culture of sport as an open and shared space.

Within this framework, Di Cera’s work plays a key role: art becomes a tool for awareness, capable of transforming the way we perceive Paralympic sport and, more broadly, diversity.

A project that continues in editorial form

Alongside the exhibition, the project also takes shape as a photographic volume produced in collaboration with Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato Italiano

The book gathers the entire series of images into a coherent visual journey, enriched by critical and institutional contributions. The result is a true atlas of athletic gestures, capable of conveying the aesthetic and human dimension of sport without superstructures.

“Shapes/Forme – Under the Same Light”, on view in Milan from March 25 to April 7, 2026, is not just an exhibition, but an invitation to look beyond: to recognize in sport—and in art—a genuine space of inclusion, identity, and freedom.
