Banksy - Donuts Strawberry for Sale: Original and Signed Print

This is Strawberry Donut by Banksy, a serigraph on paper, edition 25/299.

This series of work includes only signed copies: 299 copies of the Strawberry version and 299 of the Chocolate Version.

There aren’t unsigned copies. In total, there are 598 Donuts and this number is not accidental: in 2007 Krispy Kreme - an American chain company of donuts and cafeterias - closed 299 stores due to financial problems.

All 598 prints were released in an online lottery £ 465 each.

Deodato Art Gallery offers this limited edition exemplar of a Banksy Strawberry Donut, guaranteed by the certificate of Authenticity issued by Pest Control .

Screen Print by Banksy - Donuts Strawberry: Analysis and Meaning

Banksy presents an almost absurd scene: five serious and unperturbed policemen in convoys escort a freight truck, adorned with an enormous and impossible strawberry donut on its roof.

No colours appear in the scene, except for the motorcycle lights and the big donut.

According to the silkscreen analysis, Donuts Strawberry represents its main role in an American capitalist system and it is easy to see from the fact that it is escorted by the police as a priority.

Donuts Strawberry is a big joke about law enforcement and the cops, who prefer to be at ease at their desks, perhaps eating a donut and drinking coffee, rather than going down the streets where their real work is.

Obviously the meaning of the work is a satire towards those policemen who prefer to protect what is most dear to them.

Banksy: Street Art against American Militarism

This time, the focus is on corrupt American Militarism, which is part of the broader theme of anti-capitalism.

From the irony of the typical lazy policeman, Banksy goes so far as to denounce the entire American government system, now outdated and no longer in step with the times, which presumptuously claims to "save" and civilize other nations.

In classic Street Art style Banksy creates Donuts Strawberry to do both great irony and to talk about something deeper and more anguished.
