Banksy - Pulp Fiction - Signed Screenprint

The work by Banksy Pulp Fiction is a serigraphy on paper signed in original. It belongs to a limited edition of 750 pieces of which only 150 are signed. The work is provided with a Pest Control authentication certificate.

It is one of the street artist's best-known subjects and represents, on a black background, the protagonists of the movie by Quentin Tarantino Pulp Fiction. However, the two (played by John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson) firmly hold two bananas instead of guns.

Pulp Fiction measures 50x70 cm and shows at the bottom the number of the print run and the artist's signature. The work is dated 2004.

Street Art and Pop References

Quotes and references to other artists and icons of mass culture are recurring elements of contemporary art, especially street art. Banksy thus manages to make different cultural references coexist in this work.

The main subject are Vincent and Jules, the protagonists of Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, the movie that gives its name to Banksy's work. They are captured in one of the well-known frames of the movie, but the violence of their gesture is contradicted by the bananas that overturn the scene in an ironic and humorous way.

And if the quote to the American director is obvious, even the bananas are an evident reference to the iconic Andy Warhol-designed 1967 album cover for The Velvet Underground. Moreover, the fruit can also be read as a reference to the monkey, an iconic animal in the street artist's production.

Banksy: Graffiti vs Studio Works

As it often happens with Banksy, graffiti artist as well as a studio artist, the subject of this work first appeared in 2002 on a wall in London's Old Street district as an urban art intervention. Only later he created the 2004 limited edition screenprint on paper.

With Banksy street art and studio works reach their balance: from the street intervention, on the walls, the artist then realizes with the iconic stencil the screenprint. This way his works can circulate among the public and reach the viewer who would otherwise be unable to admire the original.

The limited-edition silkscreen printing proposed by us was created in 2004 and is part of a limited edition of 750 pieces in the world of which only 150 have the artist's signature.
