Damien Hirst - H9-6 Honour

The limited edition of 693 pieces by Damien Hirst, H9-6 Honour is hand-signed and numbered by the artist.

Honour (The Virtues, H9-6) is Damien Hirst's sixth work dedicated to the virtues. The main subject is the cherry blossom, the national symbol of Japan, which reflects the culture of patience, respect and inner peace. Together with this strong symbolism, the artist also wanted to recall the Bushidō code of conduct written by Inazō Nitobe. The writer tells of the eight virtues, among which honour is defined as having a "vivid awareness of dignity and personal worth". At times when honour threatens to reach a morbid excess, it would be counterbalanced by a preaching of magnanimity and patience. Nitobe records that honour was the highest reward of earthly existence and that fame.

Honour H9-6 measures 120x96 cm and is a Giclée print laminated on an aluminium composite panel.
