Damien Hirst - H9-4 - Politeness

The limited edition of 1549 pieces by Damien Hirst, H9-4 Politeness is hand-signed and numbered by the artist.

Politeness (The Virtues, H9-4) is Damien Hirst's fourth work dedicated to the virtues. The main subject is the cherry blossom, the national symbol of Japan, which reflects the culture of patience, respect and inner peace. Together with this strong symbolism, the artist also wanted to recall the Bushidō code of conduct written by Inazō Nitobe. The writer tells of the eight virtues, which include courtesy (politeness), centred on modesty, conformity and respect for the feelings of others. It lends grace to manners and acts as an elegant expression of sympathy. That is, kindness requires one to 'weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice'. Practised in its highest form, the virtue of kindness 'comes close to love'.

Politeness H9-4 measures 120x96 cm and is a Giclée print laminated on an aluminium composite panel.
