Andy Warhol, Ladies and Gentlemen II.129, Original Signed Limited Edition Silkscreen Print with Prices and Value.

Andy Warhol, Ladies and Gentlemen II.129

Silkscreen print by the exponent of Pop Art Andy Warhol, Ladies and Gentlemen II.129 is one of the drag queen portraits of the Ladies and Gentlemen series. The artwork is part of a limited edition of 125 pieces, signed and numbered in original.

The subject of this artwork is photographed by the artist in profile, with the gaze as if lost in a vacuum.

With Ladies and Gentlemen Andy Warhol first captures the protagonist with a polaroid. Then he creates the silkscreen print adding large sections of colors, concealing part of the figure and the background.

With this provocative and irreverent series Warhol wants to temporarily abandon his iconic portraits of stars like Marylin Monroe and Elvis. He thus decides to pay attention to figures unknown and ignored.

By photographing the drag queens in the New York night clubs, the artist elevates them and makes them his source of inspiration.

The drag queens who previously did not have a place in art history, do have one now, thanks to a provocative act of Andy Warhol. Pop Art skilfully breaks, in this way, the traditional rules of art.

This piece is the number 28/125 as specified on the back next to the artist's signature, the date and the inscription "C.A.W.E." (Copyright Andy Warhol Editions) which states the copyright.

Ladies and Gentlemen Signed Silkscreen Prints

Andy Warhol creates the Ladies and Gentlemen signed silkscreen prints in 1975 in a limited edition of 125 units on Arches paper. The series has been published by the Italian publisher Luciano Anselmino.

They are part of a portfolio of ten artworks and each one has on the back the artist sign and the edition number.

The series is mentioned in the catalogue F. Feldman, J. Schellmann, "Andy Warhol Prints. A Catalogue Raisonné 1963-1987", 4th Edition at pp. 90-91 and at the misprint of p. 385.
