Goodbye to Matteo Guarnaccia, the master of psychedelic art

The master of psychedelic art Matteo Guarnaccia passed away at the age of 67. Known for his brightly coloured works, he contributed to the spread of psychedelic art and hippie culture around the world.

Born in 1954, Guarnaccia Matteo moved to Amsterdam in the 1970s, where he founded the magazine Insekten Sekte, which was one of the best expressions of hippie culture. Over the years, the magazine was considered a true art magazine and was the best example of Italian psychedelic graphics.

A costume historian, art critic and an essayist, Matteo Guarnaccia has become one of the most important illustrators of the counterculture movements, as well as a leading expert and 'biographer' of the underground.

During his long career, the artist has exhibited in various countries such as Italy, the United States, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Switzerland, also showing in important institutions such as the Triennale of Milan.
