A banknote immediately evokes a shared, recognized and accepted value. But what happens when it enters the realm of art?
From this reflection comes 100 Dollart, the conceptual art project by Mr. Savethewall, conceived as a large-scale issue of “non-banknotes”.
At the heart of the project lies a question that has always shaped the art system: what determines the value of an artwork? Aesthetic interest, cultural recognition, trust in the artist’s work, or the dynamics of the market?
100 Dollart takes this question beyond the theoretical level and translates it into an artwork capable of engaging directly with purchases, collecting, exchanges and revaluations.
A large-scale issue of “non-banknotes”
Each Dollart is a unique, identifiable and non-fungible artwork, destined to follow its own path within the market.
The reference to money is no coincidence. Through an immediately recognizable form, Mr. Savethewall connects the world of art with that of economic value, inviting the public to reflect on the mechanisms that contribute to the recognition of an artwork.
Purchases, collecting, exchanges and revaluations thus become part of the life of each Dollart and, more broadly, of the project’s evolution.
The “Kiss Me” frog
In place of the traditional symbols of finance appears the “Kiss Me” frog, a recurring figure in Mr. Savethewall’s imagery.
A metaphor for transformation, the character becomes the protagonist of the “non-banknotes” and one of the distinctive elements of 100 Dollart.
Through his ironic and provocative language, the artist replaces the conventional references of the financial world with an image drawn from his own artistic research.
More than an artwork to collect
100 Dollart is not simply an artwork to collect, it also represents a gateway to an ecosystem of relationships, opportunities and benefits that can generate cultural and economic value for the owner of the artwork.
Art, participation and the market therefore come together in a project that does not end with the artistic object, but continues to develop through different experiences and events.
The Rome and Pietrasanta stages
The first event dedicated to the project took place in Rome on 16 April.
Conceived as an exclusive and unconventional opportunity, the event offered an experience different from a traditional exhibition, bringing art and opportunity together in a direct and surprising way.
The second stage took place in Pietrasanta on 4 July.
The event was not simply a repeat of the Rome edition. Each 100 Dollart event is designed to be different, unique and unrepeatable.
The dynamics, opportunities and benefits reserved for those who choose to participate change each time. What remains central, however, is the ironic and provocative language of Mr. Savethewall and the direct involvement of the public.
The journey continues
After Rome and Pietrasanta, 100 Dollart is preparing to continue its journey with a new stop, once again conceived as a unique and unrepeatable experience.
