|Artist: Warhol Andy||Width: 56 cm|
|Support: Paper||Height: 85 cm|
Andy Warhol changed the rules of painting; he thought that the aim of art was to be for everybody. For this reason he chose and repeated continuously iconographies taken from the mass media, Campbell's Soup and other famous brands, icons of the american society like Elvis and the beautiful Marilyn. By stealing them their Hollywood stars aura, he tried to make art democratic. For this series of portraits, the artist chooses the most beloved and desired diva of Hollywood and in this way she becomes a simple object of mass.
This artwork portrays the famous Campbell's soup. Signed on the back by Andy Warhol with the words “this is not by me, Andy Warhol”. In 1970 the well known printing shop of New York SUNDAY B MORNING, founded by some great friends of Warhol, decided to reprint for Europe the first series of "MARILYN", that had had just an unbelievable international success. Warhol however refused to collaborate for that new series. The Sunday B Morning gave however the permission for the production, setting on the back a stamp with the writing: "Published by Sunday B. Morning" and "Fill in your own signature". In front of this fact in honor of the great friendship that tied Warhol and the founders of the print shop, the artist ironically decided to sign them on the back with the written "This is not by me, Andy Warhol”. These works were successful as the first edition and they contributed to increase the popularity of Andy Warhol.
